Message from the Director
The role of the Child Nutrition/Food Service Department in Wayne County has changed dramatically over the past ten years. We have moved from a decentralized to a centralized program where all schools follow a monthly menu planned with the children's interest in mind. The same foods are made available to all schools in the county, regardless of the size of the school, and their purchasing power. Our main goal is to offer appealing menus to the children while still meeting nutritional guidelines. For additional information about our program, please feel free to contact the Director at the Wayne County Board of Education, 272-5116x338.Goal
The Goal of the Child Nutrition Department of Wayne County Schools is to offer well-planned, balanced, and nutritious meals to all students and staff. The Child Nutrition Department believes that good nutrition and sound nutrition education enhances learning, which, in turn, improves the quality of life. All menus are planned according to the USDA National School Lunch and Breakfast Program guidelines with the assistance of the NutriKids Software Program, LunchBytes Systems, Inc.. This software program provides detailed nutritional data for each meal served to the students. The data is available at each school. In West Virginia, the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program provide meals in nearly every public school, as well as 20 private schools and 45 residential institutions.
