Wayne County Schools has been in consistent communication with law enforcement regarding a matter currently under investigation involving an individual who previously served as an athletic coach with Wayne County Schools. Consistent with guidance from investigators and our obligation to protect student privacy, we cannot discuss the details of the investigation.
Our priority has been the well-being of students and communication with affected families. Families identified by law enforcement to date as requiring notification have been contacted, counseling and support services have been made available, and the district continues to cooperate fully with investigators.
Our actions have been guided by student privacy considerations and the need to avoid interfering with an active law enforcement investigation. Our first priority has been ensuring that affected families received appropriate communication and that student support services were available.
While we cannot address investigative details, we are committed to supporting students and communicating additional information if and when it can be shared consistent with student privacy considerations and law enforcement guidance.
